This reminds me of when AT&T went through the Unix reference manual
about 20 years ago, and changed the titles of all the "BUGS" sections
to "NOTES". They didn't want to frighten their users either. Still,
I can't help but wonder whether their lack of straightforwardness
caused more harm than it cured.
If grep's current behavior bit me, I'd call it a bug, not a feature.
So the current warnings do not seem out of line to me.
