TAR failed to extract multi-volume archive

Hi,

I use command 
 
   tar -cf /dev/rmt/0n --label "my archive" -F changetapescript /mydir

to create archives, if tape reaches EOT, my tape library can insert another 
tape to continue.

But when I try to extract it, i type

   tar -xMvf /dev/rmt/0n /mydir

It began to extract, but when reach EOT, it shown IO error and exit, it didn't 
ask me to insert a new tape.

Then i insert a new tape, type
 
   tar -xMvf /dev/rmt/0n /mydir

It could not extract the first file, but said,

   "can not extract filenamexxxx, it is continued from another volume"

and then contiue to extract other files.

What shall i do? My system crashed, the backup is so important!
