Sorry, I've missed that.

It seems to be already in grep-2.5, which is the last stable version.
You can get it from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grep/ , choose from
grep-2.5.tar.bz2, .tar.gz and grep-2.5-1.src.rpm .

The newest development version, 2.5.1, used to be available from
alpha.gnu.org, hasn't re-appeared after the crash.

I was able to find one mirror which still carries it, though:
ftp://ftp.unex.es/pub/gnu-beta.old/grep/grep-2.5.1.tar.bz2

Yes, that's the CVS.  It holds the version 2.5.1, so you can use it
when the above mirror times out.
