Possible bug in tar |

I have a tar archive which was created on a Sun box running SunOS 5.6.
When I compressed this archive with bzip2, copied it to Linux system,
decompressed it and restored it, I discovered a missing file. I tried
decompressing & restoring it on the Sun system & the file was present.
There were no errors reported by tar when restoring on the Linux system.
I was using GNU tar version 1.13 on the Linux box which has a 700 Mhz
Athlon CPU & is running version 2.2.19 of the kernel.
The compressed tar archive is 8.5 MB and contains some proprietary
source files belonging to my employer (Eldorado Comupting). This is the
first bug I have run into with GNU tar & I was rather surprised. Do you
have any suggestions about how to isolate this problem?
