Hi,
another old bug from the Debian BTS...

Subject: -p option only works with diff -u output?
From: address@hidden (Bdale Garbee)
Package: patch
Version: 2.5.4-5
I just had an experience on ia64 where a diff that was created using 'diff -rN'
would not apply with 'patch -p1' even though -p1 should have been correct. It
prompted me for each file's name... and giving it the path with the first token
stripped worked fine. I then asked the provider to give me a 'diff -urN' and
that worked fine.
Since I normally use diff with the -u option, this isn't a critical defect, but
I don't see anything in the docs suggesting that -p should only work with diff
-u output, so I presume this is a bug in patch.
