tar is a great useful program!
But in version 1.13.18 it seems to have a little bug.
With options -xpzvf tar generates a wrong output for hardlink-errors.
The output looks like:
tar: bin/gunzip: Cannot link to bin/gunzip: Invalid cross-device link
^^^^^^ ... the same as ... ^^^^^^
The name of the original file ist missing.
The output of tar1.13.17 was:
tar: bin/gunzip: Cannot link to `/bin/zcat': Invalid cross-device link
^^^^^^ link ^^^^ original
For tar1.13.17, mkisofs and cdrecord I wrote a script to make a
complete system backup on CD-RW and a script to restore it. But the
restore script does not work anymore since in it awk generates a
script for setting the hardlinks using the output of tar.
BTW: What is the difference between 1.13.17 and 1.13.18?
Should I still use the older version for my script until the bug is
fixed?
