grep: suggestion

Dear GNU grep maintainers,

First let me thank each and every one of you for the work you are putting
in the program, and for sharing it with the rest of us.

I would like to see an option which allows binary (or hex) pattern
matching. This is useful for locating eg. the start of gzipped
material in files. It should not treat input as a bunch of text lines
(ie. <newline> shouldn't be a special character) but rather as a byte
stream (and thus shouldn't treat <NUL>'s specially either).
