Please bear with me if this is not the proper forum to report this bug.
I have encountered a bug in the strings utility when attempting to parse
a file. The file is a MS WINDOWS 32 bit Intel 80386 executable file that
I received unrequested via email, possibly thorugh the actions of a
virus. I saved this file and attempted to run strings on it which
produced this result:
address@hidden mollusk]$ strings UNREGASF.EXE
BFD: BFD internal error, aborting at coffcode.h line 763 in
styp_to_sec_flags
BFD: Please report this bug.
When i attemped the same operation by providing the -a flag, the program
functioned correctly. The version of strings i am using is 2.10.91.
The systems I am using is Redhat GNU/Linux version 7.1. The binutils
package was vendor supplied.
I can make the file which caused this error available for download if so
requested.
Thanks
brendan
