Hy,
I have problems since a half Year with tar (1.13.18) over nfs.
If I tar 290 MB from Solaris 8 to Linux direct to the tape device
(/dev/st0) it need 1 hour and 40 minutes.
If I use cp to copy this 290 MB from solaris to the linux-disk it need only
4 minutes ------> no nfs-problem I think.
If I use tar to write this file from the local linux-disk to local tape
device (/dev/st0) it need only 3 minutes.------> also no tar-problem.
This looks so strange :-(
I tryed a lot:
- differend network cards and drivers
- differend linux distributions (suse/redhat)
- differend rsize/wsize nfs- parameters
- differend tar-block-size
- checking network speed and duplex-mode
- no messages in /var/log/messages and less /proc/net/dev looks ok
I have no idee anymore.
Maybee You have an suggestion or give me the adress from a tar mailing-list
or newsgroup.
Thanks a lot, Hendrik
