tar and ssh

Hello,

i can't find ssh mentioned in the docs of gnu-tar.

One of the features of gnu-tar, i like, is the possibility
to write the output to a tape attached to another machine.
I understood that this works via "rmt". 

Is there a way to do this by ssh? Are there plans in this direction?
