I think it would be neat if bash did emacs' dabbrev-expand.
$ echo the Nurdly12341234 report | command -o n[ESC /]
would give
$ echo the Nurdly12341234 report | command -o Nurdly12341234
without having to type it all in again or use emacs *shell* mode.
By the way I'm dismayed that $ ^R^R can't remember the last search
string, if any, even in bash 2.05. Do a search, do a command, then
at the next prompt hit ^R^R .
Or even:
$ ^Remacs^R^R^R^C^R^R^R... or
$ ^Remacs^R^R^R^G^R^R^R...
I want it to at ^ this point resume my search for "emacs" strings.
I mean if it can remeber a ^Y string accross commands, why can it
remember a ^R string? It's not like I'm aksing for recalling accross
reboots or process lives.
I suppose these are readline problems, not bash problems. Same with
the rest I posted to gnu.bash.bug over the months with nobody
commenting.
