regarding th tar problem

dear sir,
        recently i had to dowload one simulation
software from a certain ftp site. being a big file i
splitted it into 4 parts using the blade splitter
software [windows version]
the 4 files were
magic-7.1.1.tar.bs1
magic-7.1.1.tar.bs2
magic-7.1.1.tar.bs3
magic-7.1.1.tar.bs4
on combning it on my computer using the same software
i got one file named
magic-7.1.1.tar*
implying that it is a bin. file.
i use mandrake 7.2.
neither the command -t nor -xvf works giving an error
stating that this is not a tar file.
what do i do?
