i am sorry too, because i use the german version linux,i guessed ,that you could
also understand german.
sorry for my poor english first,i explain you ,what trouble i have.
i want to use tar to backup the files on the server.i can only create a new
archieve on band-device,i can`t append tar files to the end of an archieve or
update the files of an archieve.
the band-device is HP surestore DAT24x6
eg.i want to update die files under the directory /home/zhou on band 5
mtx -f /dev/st0 load 5
------------------------------
tar rvf /dev/st0 /home/zhou or
tar uvf /dev/st0 /home/zhou
the band-device runs ok,all the informations are showed on the screen,no
failure messages.but when i saw the kontent of the archieve(tar tvf
/dev/st0),there were no files, which should be updated to the end of the
archieve.it means,no files are appended to the archieve.i don't konw the reason.
maybe i have used tar with wrong options.
i hope ,this time, you can understand me.
another problem:i want to backup files with absolute paths,
later when i recover the files to the server, how can i let the
directorycharacter of the groups and owners not change.
it means ,after recovering the groups and owners of the directories are same
like before .
thank you
