sharutils-4.2.1 and msgfmt

The sharutils-4.2.1 release of 10-Sep-1999 failed to build on ten+
local UNIX flavors, most with the same error:

/usr/bin/msgfmt -o nl.mo nl.po
nl.po:450: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'

I have this version:

/usr/bin/msgfmt --version
msgfmt (GNU gettext) 0.10.35
