Hi Alexandra,

MacPorts attempts to add itself to your PATH. If it's not available in a new 
Terminal window, add /opt/local/bin and /opt/local/sbin to the start of your 
PATH environment variable so that MacPorts-installed programs take precedence 
over system-provided programs of the same name.

As for the Unidentified Developer message, I'm not interested in paying Apple 
to distribute software on their systems. Here's apple's support document for 
getting around the dialog in Mavericks:
