Hi there,

Thanks for your help both. Yes, I forgot to say I’m using the windows version.  Although my IT skills are pretty good, the truncation issue isn’t something I’m that aware of in Windows as I’ve never had that problem before besides where i’m saving a file in a folder, within a folder, within another folder...etc so that the path is really long and sometimes that causes a problem with other programmes when saving the file i think.

What Harry suggested may be correct though...on my office computer it seems to keep the file name but when i take the pspp sav file home and use it there, this is maybe where the file name gets truncated! I’ll have to test this theory and will let you know.

Thanks both.

John

If John is running syntax in the terminal under windows, there may be such an
issue which is not apparent on the gui.  I would have to check.

I couldn't reproduce it in a terminal either. PSPP and PSPPIRE both support long files names.

Have fun
