I think this problem has recently been fixed.
0.7.5 is about 18 months old now so I suggest that you upgrade to 0.7.9
Contact the Ubuntu people if you're not sure how to do this, or download the
source from ftp://alpha.gnu.org and build it yourself.

I got this error when opening a sav. file in pspp 0.7.5 (this was the
latest version that appeared in my package manager) while using ubuntu
10.04.
I then tried to dummy code a variable. I managed to insert new values and a
new name, but when i press "ok" pspp crashes completly. Then i opened pspp
in using the code "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pspp/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
psppire"
Then I followed the same procedure as last time, when the program crashed
i got this message "(psppire:3737): GLib-CRITICAL **:
g_key_file_set_value: assertion `g_key_file_is_group_name (group_name)'
failed" at least a dozen times in the terminal.
