PSPP-BUG: PSPP error message when trying reading a PSPP file

I'm a new user of the PSPP program (psppire.exe 0.6.1) and as such perhaps makinf unecessary mistakes. Yesterday I have tried to create a statsitc and I have entered all data into PSPP. After closing the application and starting afterwards, I could not read my file anymore. When I try to open the file I get following error message:
 
PSPP error: "D:\Jose\PSPP-Statistik\fifi4.sav" near offset 0xc04: Variable index 2573 not in valid range 1...19.
 
Now my work is gone and I need to start over again. I'm afraid that this can happen again and this is the reason to write to you.
 
Perhaps someone can tell me how to recover my file or how to prevent this again.
