The libiconv on macOS is modified by Apple; they added the "utf-8-mac"
encoding. [1] The original GNU libiconv does not contain this encoding.

Therefore, could you please direct your (very pertinent and to the point)
report to the Apple forums?

> $ iconv --version
> iconv (GNU libiconv 1.11)

This output is a bit misleading: you're running a version modified by Apple.
