Perhaps you could do a quick test of whether 'find -printf' works, and use -printf only if it works.
Yeah, that's an option.But a meaningful test whether 'find' works seems a bit less obvious to design than the existing tests in grep.el I could otherwise adapt.
Something to consider for future developments in Emacs 29 anyway.
