My mistake, I guess. Git makes terminology a little confusing in that part. Because the example I was thinking of is 'git status --porcelain' which is meant to

  "Give the output in an easy-to-parse format for scripts. This is
   similar to the short output, but will remain stable across Git
   versions and regardless of user configuration."

In any case, the question is about output's stability.
