You know, in terms of hardware we haven't too much
trouble. All we need is one pretty decent machine to
hold a database, and in terms of processing power a
bank of perl/php interpreters with mob_backhand &
apache will do fine. this way we can buy a few really
cheap on sunstations and put netbsd or something on
them, then get more as we need them.

for price e.g.
... sun sparc 10, 128m ram, 1gig hdd - around £30...
... sun sparc 2, 64mb ram, 800mb hddm around £6...

oh and on the hosting thing... do you think we could
approach universities? I was thinking specifically
Imperial College London in the UK, because they
practically sit in the Internet, all the computers in
the university have real internet IPs! So we'd just
need to ask them if we could stick some computers on
their campus somewhere, maybe even next to sun site
:-) We could try other universities too. This cuts out
problems of electricity bills and 'Net connections.
