http://freenet.sourceforge.net

Basically, it is a system where the people running ``mirrors'' (that's
not really what they are but...) don't (and can't) have any idea what
is stored at their node. People request content by ``keys'' and the
actual content might come from any node. No node can know the
structure of the network. It is impossible to remove content from the
network. Hence, the only way to get rid of any information in it is to
shut the entire thing down; since nobody can know the overall
structure, this is exceedingly difficult.

Or so goes the theory.
