Hi everybody,

I've been reading the list only for a few days now, but I get the 
impression, the majority of postings only cover topics, which should be 
not of main interest.

   * The point with importing word files or not is that we have nothing 
     to import to. So this is a decision we should take, when we would 
     be able to import word files. A good solution for the beginning 
     would be to provide an interface with which anyone can import 
     data. From any format he/she wants(Not only Word). So we don't 
     have to discuss wether we should allow import of word files, 
     somebody can write a filter or not. And this doesn't have to part 
     of the GNE Project.
   * External Links: As above, we don't have something to put our links 
     into. So we can decide this only, when the problem arises. This 
     will be not until we have some content.
   * Moderation: This will be a very important point because it will be 
     possible, to post illegal content, if no one cares about the 
     content. So we run the risk of our servers to be closed down. Next 
     point is that a lot of people will take the chance and post stuff 
     which is completely untrue. We must have some means to sort this 
     stuff out. This is an important point, because in some countries 
     there are laws which forbid showing or distributing some opinions. 
     I don't speak of Irak or the Kongo, but Germany for example. Here 
     it is illegal to support things like the holocaust denial, or show 
     signs of the nazis. So we could get a lot problems to get mirrors 
     outside the US. And even to get people to work on the project, 
     because I (and a lot other people from Germany also) wouldn't like 
     to work on a project which gives people a platform to post their 
     very weird ideas. But don't try to discuss that with me, discuss 
     that with somebody who has lost grandparents or parents...
     

A few good points to start would be to have a page where all the 
material which we want to base GNE on can be downloaded, so we can start 
working. I would like to see something like a concept, how we should 
handle things like heavy load, too long searching time, multimedia 
content and a lot of other things. 

Fo the point of linking we should give the possibility to link to other 
GNE servers, so we should introduce something like an URI for the articles. 
Also we should agree on something like a topic tree, for example to have 
the possibility to link to an article which has not yet been written. 
(predefined nodes or something like that). There should be systems for 
this, we should decide on the format to save the data and copy one of 
the systems into that format.
