In the case of broken links, instead of having the external link point directly to the external resource we could have it point to some sort of smart redirector which would check to see if the external link was available before redirecting and if it wasn't it could flag the link as suspect. Suspect could be just setting it's moderation rating to 0 and submitting back to the modeation queue to be re-evaluated or some other sort of special procedure which would (most likely) need to be checked by a human.

NO external links! Not until we can insure we won't
have broken links and links to sites that violate (or
in future change and violate) our own policies.
