If this is the case, what happens when articles that were linked to are
removed, do we end up with "bad links" just like on the web? Could the
authors of the articles that link to the doomed article be notified?
Does this mean that an author would be also maintaining his/her article?
This I feel would be a burden on authors.
My solution would be that articles that are linked to should not be removed,
but placed in the "Seldom Used" database/folder/storage.

Yes. I don't think anyones would oppose such a system of linking ,
so I think it can be taken as an assumed capability.
