As has been mentioned before, GNU content is a giant undertaking on the
scale of the GNU project. A large part of the work that needs to be done is
simply evangelism, education and outreach. We need to explain to people that
providing free content is a legitimate and intelligent thing to do.
Another, smaller part, is to build a listing of available GNU content. This
could be something along the line of Yahoo!/Dmoz/Google except that it only
dealt in content that was FDL-compatibile.
Underneath that are various FDLed projects, an obvious one being an
encyclopedia. Now there can be many FDLed encyclopedias, and many FDLed
"distributions" of these encyclopedias. There even be various compilations
of random free content on the Web into something like an encyclopedia. There
are no limits to what we can do.
Notice how none of these projects insist on a single server, a single
encyclopedia, a single format and a single style guide. (It's hard to
imagine the same thing being expected of the GNU OS!) While these are
helpful and useful, they are only a small part of the overall equation. I
think the education and outreach side is just as important.
Just wanted to throw that out there,
