Hi,

A correspondant recently pointed me to the GNUPedia initiative.

"The Programmers' Stone" is a transcript of series of lectures intended
to open up the richness of production software engineering that lies
beyond the weenie level. It could do with a tidy up, but it's a good
start. It's completely freely available, in the hope of improving the
situation.

It's been on the Web for a couple of years, and has caused contraversy
in watering holes like Slashdot. Interestingly, all the responses -
positive and negative - are emotional, rather than intellectual, as one
might expect for such a "dry" subject :-)

The pages are available at:

   http://www.reciprocality.org/Reciprocality/r0/index.html

There is a Russian version at:

   http://progstone.nm.ru/

And a Hungarian version at:

   http://progstone.globalservice.hu

The translations have been contributed by people who found the English
version interesting.

The remainder of the site attempts to put some philosophical basis
behind some of the ideas in PS. Possibly less interesting for GNUPedia,
but might give FSF staff a few interesting coffee breaks :-)

Yours,

Alan G. Carter
