I think this is right. Unless I am mistaken, there is nothing to
'Gnupedia' but an announcement and a mailing list. We very warmly
welcome the entire open source community to come join us at Nupedia.

By the way, we have been debating and working hard for a year on many
of the issues that have already been touched on this list. We have settled
on an XML dtd, though our implementation leaves a lot to be desired.
We have put together open review groups, peer reviewers, editors, etc.
There is room for everyone, and there is a *lot* of work to be done.

Yes! One of the struggles that we have faced within the Nupedia
community is the delicate balance between openness and review.
In ESR's terminology, this may be seen as a tension between the
cathedral and the bazaar. It's a tough problem, and we need lots
of sharp minds to help guide us on the right path -- and we must
always remain open to change for the better.

There might be room, someday, for multiple projects, just as there
is room for Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and the rest. But this should
not be our starting position.

When there are no points of controversy, there is no need to fork.
