Perhaps each user could say to the system, ``I trust these reviewers:
x, y, and z''. Then, if those reviewers also trust other reviewers,
the user could ask to see only ``trusted'' entries if she wishes.
The system could build up an aggregate rating of each article based on
a number of criteria (including the above ``trust''), and the user
could select a cut-off rating which would eliminate articles below
that level.
This could be further complicated in a number of ways: by degrading
the trust ratings such that reviewers 1 or 2 degrees away from the
user count more towards the article's final rating than reviewers 5 or
6 degrees away; or by having reviewers or authors with more total
``trust'' grant articles they rate more weighting in the final
aggregate rating of the article.
I'm sure I can come up with more complications given time ;)
