        There is no reason not to use both, in fact I would think we would
be hard pressed to manage without perl (or it's equivalent) for automating
conversions and so on. I would envisage perl being used to do take
submissions from latex2html or MS Word or whatever and convert them into XML
format on the backend.
        Perl and XML and not mutually exclusive.

I still prefer Perl, and would follow /. and
sourceforge etc, but if the consensus is with XML then
fair enough. Just so long as its versatile enough to
let people use things like latex2html when writing
them. It has to be able to format very well basically.
