Hi anyone,

I have a question concerning authoring tools: When presenting
scientific material (for example in physics) it is often necessary to
use mathematical formulas. Since HTML does not support formulas
directly one needs a convenient tool to publish scientific courses. Do
you know any good free web publishing tools that support pictures and
formulas?

Since the standard format in science is LaTeX it would be obvious to
use a LaTeX-to-HTML converter for this task. Unfortunately my
experiences with latex2html (a well-known representative of this kind
of program) are not very good. When the input is getting more complex,
the result is usually a mess.

Another question that comes to mind is how to produce nice printed
versions of encyclopedia articles. Printouts of webpages are usually
rather ugly. The people of the GNU project are using a meta-format for
documenting their programs. Would this be a way to go for the
encyclopedia as well?

Regards,

Bernd
