I am afraid the truss doesn't help much. First, check that you spelled 
PASSWORD correctly (it is misspelled above). Then try the suggestions from 
the TROUBLESHOOTING document, especially the telnet step, i.e. "telnet 
hostname 1529", replacing hostname with the name of your GNATS server. If 
you are unable to connect by telnet, something is wrong with GNATS itself.
