Gnuplot 3.7.1 does not create GIF files any more because of the Unisys
patent issues with LWZ encoding. The GIF files were created by the GD
library which noo longer creates GIF files. The GD library creates
PNG files now. BTW, PNG will generally be smaller than GIF.
