I think you have found a real bug, but it is confusing me slightly.
Recently, the line to say that marcros are in the m4 subdirectory was
commented out. With git head, autogen.sh builds a configure that does
not have the macro expaneded. If I reenable the line
AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIR([m4])
then configure seems to work.
I don't understand why the AX_CXX_COMPILE_STDCXX macro isn't being
picked up from my system, when presumably many others are.
