Follow-up Comment #1:
By design, updatedb now uses the C locale (see the NEWS file for findutils
4.7.0, and also https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?46846). This avoids problems
with path names whose components are encoded in incompatible locales.
This makes it infeasible to ignore case, since the implementation would need
to identify the character encoding of each component in the current path name,
and this information is not recorded by the operating system.
