2.5.53 of what exactly?

   flapp:/home/user/nico # df --version
   df (GNU fileutils) 4.0.35

Could you try and see if this still presists in GNU Fileutils 4.1 [1]?
Or if you feel brave GNU Coreutils (an merge of Fileutils, Shutils and
Textutils) [2]?  If it still exists in those, could you try debugging
it?
