possible problem with mv

Hello,

I have a directory /usr/local/gcc-3.2/bin/bin. The directory containes executable files. If I move the files with the following command mv * .. then it seems to move all the files to the parent directory. When I goto directory /usr/local/gcc-3.2/bin and try to remove the seemingly empty bin directory, I get error message that says I cannot remove the directory - It is not empty. I do an ls on the bin directory and nothing comes up, but I can not remove it with the rm -r or rm -r -f option. I am running slackware 8.1 which is using a UMSDOS filesystem. I can dual boot both Windows and Linux, but Linux is on the same partition as Windows. This is possible according to slackware. When I go into Windows and look at the bin directory, I see there are indeed some files in there like _link* and _link32* and --linux*. That is the only way I can remove the directory is through Windows, but I would like it to work in Linux.
Can you help me out?

Thanks,
Kerry
