stat/lstat problem?

I'm getting a problem with mv and cp having to do with symlinks; sometimes, 
they mistake a symlink to a directory for a directory. The odd thing is that 
it doesn't seem to be consistent; sometimes it decides it's a link, and 
sometimes it decides it's a directory. I'll send you more info if I manage to 
isolate the problem.

I'm using fileutils 4.1. It's on a Reiser filesystem (3.something?). Perhaps 
that might have something to do with it?
