It couldn't be that simple :-).
By the way, to get configure to finish I had to recompile flex with -m64.
I had never thought about it, but it seems reasonable; probably it is
not possible to link several modules (.o files) into an executable when
some are 32-bit and some are 64-bit.
I think there is a similar problem with other libraries used by evm,
maybe readline or, more probably, pthreads.
However don't recompile them with -m64. Installing them in your
default path could break your system, I wouldn't dare if I were you. And
the same might hold for flex; if you have installed the 64-bit version
in your default path then I suggest you to recompile it again with -m32.

Thanks. The output of eam-config is exactly as I expected, and also
config.h is ok.
I have some ideas worth investigating, but this is really becoming
too much work on you. Some days ago you very kindly offered me a shell
account on your UltraSparc machine. The time to accept has come :-). I
just need a normal user account, (not root or bin), and write permission
on /tmp. I will install everything it's needed under /tmp/usr and change
paths only on my environment, thus without messing up your system; of
course remember not to send me passwords with "Cc:" set to
address@hidden
I thank you again for being so helpful. You deserve a special credit.
