Maybe I could find the way to make ddrescue exit in this case, but if the kernel continues locked on the drive, you would need to disconnect it anyway for it to respond again. So, not sure if it is worth the trouble. In addition, I think I have never found this problem myself and couldn't therefore test a possible workaround.
