**NOTE** I'm well aware that no one is going to guarantee the safety of the data with a test like this. I'm asking for an option, not an endorsement.
With some drives ( not many ) I do find that they'll read fine but their write ability is damaged. With ddrescue I modified the check_identical() function in main.cc to not abort when I do ddrescue -v -f -X0 -P16 /dev/sdc /dev/sdc readwritetest.log
So far it seems to work, the data remains intact.Would it be possible to have a --write-test option that'll allow you to bypass the "Infile and outfile are them same" test ?
