Thank you. I had not noticed how much better ddrescue is than dd reading optical media because I have always used ddrescue to do it. (I first wrote ddrescue to read scratched CDROMs).
Next version of ddrescue's manual will include a chapter about optical media and an example of rescue of a CD/DVD using multiple drives.
