Hi Gábor,
I think the feature you request is already available through domain logfiles. If you create a domain logfile marking all areas to be copied with +, and marking all other areas with -, ddrescue will only copy the selected areas. Additionally in the logfile of the rescue process all not copied (unwanted) areas will have a ? showing that the status of these areas are unknown, since they are not tried. This way the real logfile is not touched manually and it still reflects the real status of the rescue process.
Now why didn't I think of that! With a couple minor changes, that does exactly what I want and then some. I guess sometimes I just need a kick in the right direction.
