Only a small part of it. But as soon as I find the time I plan to study the kernel code more carefully.
As for the skip rate, that still sounds a bit tricky.
It can be adjusted with the '--min-read-rate', so perhaps a better default value can be found with time.
And if skipping slow areas proves useful, maybe it can be further improved by comparing the time used by each read call instead of one second averages.
