I am one of those "Usamericans"(should be - US citizens, North Americans, or Americans) that would like to point out a serious error in logic by the person who wrote this man page.(info ddrescue: Invoking ddrescue, bottom of the page)
Yes we can read and understand basic math!! Please read the quoted excerpt below " ################################################################################# Table of SI and binary prefixes (unit multipliers):
Prefix Value | Prefix Value | b hardware blocks k kilobyte (10^3 = 1000) | Ki kibibyte (2^10 = 1024) M megabyte (10^6) | Mi mebibyte (2^20)
G gigabyte (10^9) | Gi gibibyte (2^30) T terabyte (10^12) | Ti tebibyte (2^40) P petabyte (10^15) | Pi pebibyte (2^50) E exabyte (10^18) | Ei exbibyte (2^60)
Z zettabyte (10^21) | Zi zebibyte (2^70) Y yottabyte (10^24) | Yi yobibyte (2^80)
NOTE: Don't believe everything Usamericans tell you. A billion is a
million millions (million^2), a trillion is a million million millions (million^3), and so on. Please, respect the meaning of prefixes to make communication among all people possible. Thanks. #################################################################################

If this is a joke please make it a little more obvious; if not, then please use bc or any other calculator and/or dictionary to confirm the following: A thousand is 1,000 A million is 1,000,000 (1,000 * 1,000 = 1,000,000 OR 1,000^2 OR 10^6)
A billion is 1,000,000,000 (1,000 * 1,000 * 1,000 = 1,000,000,000 OR 1,000,000 * 1,000 = 1,000,000,000 OR 1,000^3 OR 10^9) A trillion is 1,000,000,000,000 (1,000 * 1,000 * 1,000 * 1,000 = 1,000,000,000,000 OR 1,000,000^2 OR 1,000^4 OR 10^12)
therefore according to normal logic (the logic that the rest of the world uses)
A billion is a thousand millions A trillion is a million millions
Just to clarify the discrepancies:
A million millions (million^2) is a trillion NOT a billion!!
A million million millions (million^3) is a quintillion(1,000,000,000,000,000,000 OR 10^18) NOT a trillion!!
Please search (at least) wikipedia for definitions to such complicated terms before putting your own definitions in print.
Before you ask, nothing on my system was compiled with '-ffast-math'!! Have a good day and please keep the documentation accurate, we all depend on it.
