CVS commit issues "broken pipe" error

Conditions:

 1.  cvs version 1.11.17
 2.  loginfo is used and invokes a (trivial) perl script
 3.  the commit uses -F and the message file is larger than 3731 bytes

NOTE: the loginfo.pl can be completely trivial, but must be present. The error 
is emitted as soon as the message file is made larger than 3721 bytes. (This 
exact size may vary somewhat, but I have seen very reliable failures with a 
larger file and the error never occurs with a smaller file.)
