I finally figured out how to get sanity.sh to run. I needed to run this
command:
sed 's/\\\$\\\./\\\\\$\\\./g' <sanity.sh >temp.txt
cp temp.txt sanity.sh
Which changes about 6 lines in sanity.sh. Note that this change is not
included in
the patch below, because I don't know if it's a problem with sanity.sh or a
problem
with expr on my Solaris system, and it's unrelated to this fix anyway. expr
on my
Solaris system doesn't like seeing "$\.". It needs to be "\$\.". It can
handle things
like "$Name", it just doesn't like seeing that \ after the $
Anyway, now that I can actually run sanity.sh I found that the fix (more or
less) that
I submitted 4 years ago passes sanity.sh after all. No unexpected
side-effect was
noticed. Therefore, I prefer to go back to that fix. I've also taken the
liberty of adding
some more comments to the test cases I added in sanity.sh.
As before, I'm including the change both below and as an attachment.
BFN. Paul.
