Checksums on versions |

I've been asked to investigate a way to get assurance that the data that
is checked out of CVS (and updates too) is the data that was checked into
CVS.
>From web searches and documentation reading I notice there's a Checksum in
the protocol, but it is only used sometimes. I am using CVS 1.11 on the
server (linux) and WinCVS 1.2 (which uses cvs 1.11 on windows)
I am wondering if that Checksum is enough to guarantee the data is
correct, or whether I need additional checksums. If I were to do that,
would it be possible to use a program on the server or client to check at
the commit / checkout / update time automatically and report if there is
an error?
Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.
