i foolishly installed freebsd using the suggested partitions sizes, and
my /tmp directory turns out to be too small to handle the temporary files
created by cvs. i tried changing the TMPDIR environment variable to point
to a larger partition but cvs doesn't recognize this. The GNU coding
standards suggest that programs always check this variable before
defaulting to /tmp, for temporary file placement. should cvs do this.
it'd be a quick fix to implement.
